Equifax’s website application, one of the three major credit bureaus, was breached. Matrix is a science fiction movie whereby the matrix was fake. Morpheus frees Neo’s body and mind with the red pill, which was a tracking program. The Internet is not dissimilar from the matrix. The Internet serves as a subtle safe conduit that carries zeros and ones. Internet companies (i.e., companies handle some or all transactions online) are not immune against cyber attacks, including credit bureaus. Cypher’s gripe with the red pill is noteworthy; nonetheless, he is willing to return to the matrix for a dream-filled steak. Hundreds of millions of online transactions are handled daily by the Internet. The Equifax breach could affect 143 million U.S. customers, including certain UK and Canada residents. The types of consumers are factored into total affected individuals. The dwell time could have been longer than 42 days-average global dwell time. The breach occurred between mid-May through July 2017. Per Equifax’s website on the breach, “There has been no evidence of breach on core databases.”
