Earlier this month, OurMine leaked 3.12 Terabytes (TB) of Vevo’s internal data. Should you or should you not pay threat actors? OurMine, hackers group, gingerly enjoined, “We got into too many private documents, but we won’t share it?” Vevo’s response, ” F……, you don’t have anything!” Vevo’s response was a loud clap back, which did not deter OurMine. Soon afterward, private files of Vevo were posted on OurMine’s website. Who is Vevo? Vevo is an American multinational video hosting service that was started in 2009. Shareholders of Vevo include Google, Abu Dhabi Media, Sony Music Entertainment, Warners Music Group and Universal Music Group. Who is OurMine? According to the Guardian, OurMine is a Saudi Arabian-based hacking group.
A few names of high profile personal accounts infiltrated by OurMine:
- Dick Costolo – Twitter’s former CEO
- Jack Dorsey – Twitter’s CEO, Co-Founder and Square CEO
- Sundar Pichai – Google’s CEO
- Mark Zuckerberg – Facebook’s CEO
Domain Name System (DNS) cache poisoning and distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) were used on WikiLeaks’ website. WikiLeak’s founder is Julian Assange. DNS cache poisoning is another name for dns spoofing, which diverts traffic from legitimate websites to fake ones. DNS is an application layer protocol designed to translate domain names (e.g., google.com ) into IP-address (e.g., 74.125.128.113).
